What is an automatic watch and how does it work?
An automatic watch is basically a mechanical watch that has the ability to wind itself using the movement of its owner's arm, making manual winding unnecessary.
This is possible thanks to a rotor that spins around a pivot, which, through oscillation (movement of the arm), acts on the spring winding mechanism.
Each mechanism is called a "caliber": the precision of its construction determines good functionality and therefore greater accuracy. In the case of automatic watches, the spring is constantly under the same tension and, as a result, provides a consistent power output for the movement.
Besides higher accuracy, automatic watches have the advantage of being much more resistant to dust and moisture: the fact that you don’t have to wind the mechanism daily through the crown helps maintain the quality of the seals and thus protects the watch from external elements.
