What is and how does an automatic watch work?
An automatic watch is basically a mechanical watch that has the ability to wind itself with the movement of its owner's arm, making manual winding unnecessary.
This is possible thanks to a rotor that spins around a pivot, which, through oscillation (Installation of the moving arm), acts on the spring winding mechanism.
Each mechanism is called a "caliber": good functionality and thus greater accuracy depend on the precision of its construction. In the case of automatic winding watches, the spring is constantly under the same tension and, as a result, provides a constant power output for the movement.
Besides higher accuracy, automatic watches have the advantage of being much more resistant to dust and moisture: the fact that you don't have to wind the mechanism daily through the crown helps maintain the quality of the seals and therefore protect the watch from external agents.
