What is an automatic watch and how does it work?

An automatic watch is, basically, a mechanical watch that has the ability to wind itself with the movement of its owner's arm, thus making the manual winding operation unnecessary.

This is possible thanks to a rotor that rotates around a pivot, which, through oscillation (Installation of the moving arm) acts on the spring loading mechanism.

Each mechanism is called a "caliber": good functionality and therefore greater accuracy depend on the precision of the construction. In the case of self-winding watches, the spring is constantly at the same tension and as a consequence provides a constant force output for the movement.

Apart from higher precision, automatic watches have the advantage of being much more prone to sealing against dust and humidity: the fact of not having to wind the mechanism daily through the crown allows the quality of the watch to be maintained. the seals and therefore protect the watch from external agents.
